Wag Away Publishing, LLC is an indie press devoted to making a difference by writing inspiring rescue dog stories of love, loyalty, and laughter.
In 2015 Carmen Leal suffered a severe concussion and a traumatic brain injury after an inattentive driver slammed into us as she and her husband sat at a red light.
For over two years nothing else she tried took away the pain, the anxiety, or the deep overwhelming sadness; she finally gave in and decided to try a dog as her doctor had suggested multiple times.
After moving to Oshkosh from Honolulu, they went to a shelter and adopted Coconut, the dog who not only saved her life, but gave her a purpose and a way to use a lifetime of experiences and her passion to help small businesses with her marketing expertise.
During the four years she volunteered at an area independent rescue shelter, wrote bios, grants, created events, and other tasks that led to the adoption of 6,500 rescue dogs. Carmen is the author of twelve books including When Love Wags a Tail and I Chose You, Imperfectly Perfect Rescue Dogs and Their Humans.
Carmen writes and speaks about rescue dogs to create awareness about how a dog can change everything for the suicidal woman, the autistic child, the veteran with PTSD, and the shut-in senior who has no hope.
She writes to save dogs who, if euthanized, will not be alive to make a difference for the people who need the unconditional love that only a dog can give.
A portion of every book sold is donated to Second Chance North, an area foster-to-adoption-group so that, together, we can rescue more dogs.
